SnoopyHello! I'm Snoopy (as if you didn't know).
Today is the anniversary of my first appearance
in the Peanuts comic strip (it was in 1950). [shown below]
I'm sure you know me, Snoopy, the extroverted beagle, the canine Walter Mitty. If I say so myself , I am a virtuoso at every endeavor — at least in my daydreams atop my doghouse.
I regard my human, Charlie Brown, as “that round-headed kid” who brings me my supper dish.
I am fearless though prudently cautious about “the cat next door.” I never speak — that would be one human trait too many — but I manage to convey everything necessary in facial expressions and thought balloons. Not to mention the literary works I produce on my 1950s~vintage typewriter.
A one-dog show with superior intelligence and vivid imagination, I have created such multiple personalities as: Joe Cool, World War I Flying Ace, Literary Ace, Flashbeagle, Vulture, Foreign Legionnaire, etc. Of course, all that was in the future on my first day. Then I was still a puppy walking on all fours, proudly adorned with a flower, until it rained on my parade ....

Julian 2003 Sep 21— LVDI ROMANI XVII — ANTE DIEM XI CALENDAS OCTOBRIS MMDCCLVI A.V.C
Explanation of various calendars

The Egyptians celebrated this day as the Feast of Divine Life. It was an epagomenal day, added to the calendar to complete a 365 day year. On this day they celebrated the birthday of their mother-goddess.
The rites of the Eleusinian Mysteries, begun on the Festival days of the 18th and the 19th, would continue this day.
In Greece, the Rites of Eleusis were performed this day.
In DCCXXXV A.V.C. (19 BC) the great Roman poet Publius Vergilius Maro, 50, died this day in the port of Brindisii upon his return from Greece. Virgil wrote The Aeneid, an epic account of the travels of the refugees from Troy as they settled successively in Carthage and in Latium, giving rise several generations later to the line of Romulus, the founder of Rome. He also wrote The Eclogues, and The Georgics. Virgil was born on the Ides of October in DCCLXXXVI A.V.C. (15 October 70 BC).
VIRGIL ONLINE: (in Latin): The Aeneid, The Eclogues, The Georgics — (in English translation): The Aeneid, The Aeneid, The Aeneid, The Eclogues, The Georgics
