Born
in Bologna, Italy, in 1961, Andrea Angelini began his piano studies as a
child, first at Rimini Lettimi School. He later earned a diploma at Ferrara's
Frescobaldi Conservatory. Particularly interested in piano teaching, he attended
specialized courses with Rita Ferri and Alexander Lonquich. After earning his
diploma in Choir Direction in 1992, he studied music therapy with Professor
Cremaschi of Milan University. His interests led him to the choral field, and he
studied Liturgical Music at Modena and at the International Art Academy in Rome,
earning a diploma studying with Maestro Fulvio Angius and in Oakham (England)
with Peter Phillips and The Tallis Scholars. He studied also Organ at Pesaro's
Conservatory of Music.
Since
1988, Professor Angelini has conducted numerous concerts of the Coro "Carla
Amori" of Rimini. He has also worked with the Cattolica City Choir and the
Cesena Lyric Choir. In 1996 he was named Director of the Rimini Cathedral Choir
"Alessandro Grandi". With this choir he took place in several concerts,
also in important Churches as St. Peter’s in Rome - where was able to meet
Pope Woytila - and in the Milan’s Cathedral.
Mr.
Angelini is the Artistic Director of the International Festival "Voices
from America and the Sound of the Organ" that takes place in Rimini each
spring. He is also the Artistic Director and member of the Jury of the International
Organ Competition “Marcello Galanti”, both of the Italian edition and of
the American one that takes place at the University of Kutztown (PA). He is also
member of the Jury of the International
Choir Competition “Grand Prix Slovakia”.and of the Malta
Choir Festival.
He
teaches music theory, music history and
piano at the State School of Music of the Republic of San Marino. His
memberships include the Artistic Committee of AERCO (Regional Association of
Choirs), FENIARCO (National Italian Federation of Regional Choral Associations),
ABCD (British Association of Choral Directors) and RCO (The Royal College of
Organists).
He
is a regular reviewer for the press and a qualified junior/secondary school
teacher. He has written numerous transcriptions for choirs and chamber ensembles,
including a monumental transcription of Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria in D RV589, for
choir, soloists, and organ (with the organ part being quite suited to the
instrument). His transcription of Faure's
Requiem is published by Gelber Hund Verlag of Berlin, who also
publish a book of pieces for
organ and violin edited by Mr. Angelini. For the American
CanticaNOVA Publication he has prepared some transcriptions of important
Renaissance Anthems.
He
is also an expert of computer science and he usually works with Windows, Word,
Corel Draw, Encore, Finale, ecc…
Andrea
is happily married with Annamaria.
