Hello,
my name is Pygathrix Nemaeus, but please don't call me Pyg for short. I
would prefer the name Nem. I am a red-shanked Douc Langur. If you think I look sad, you're right. It's because my species is endangered. We are colobine monkeys who live in south central Viet Nam and parts of neighboring Laos. We are threatened throughout our limited range by habitat destruction and hunting. It is horrible to think that people kill us to eat us, or to use our body parts to prepare their worthless traditional medicines. Some of us survive in parks and nature reserves. The wildlife laws established to protect us and other threatened species are too often poorly enforced in the face of lucrative and illegal wildlife trade. |
