'Famous
last words' is the last album with the original line-up. Roger
was planning to left the band after Breakfast In America, but
Rick persuaded him to do just another album. Roger accepted it
but he wasn't convinced so much and that came out in the album.
You
can understand suddenly that the sound of FLW is not the same of
the previous Supertramp's jobs: the different R&B direction
wanted by Rick and then the absolute missing of cooperation
between Rick and Roger. Except guitar-solo in 'Waiting So Long'
any tracks seems a song written for himself and not for the band.
From a musical point of view, Rick and Roger were at the end of
their affair. I want to add that for me it's unexplainable how
Rick hates this album: it was so strange that in the last tour,
Supertramp didn't play any of Famous's songs just like in 1988
Tour.
Amyway
I think that we can find some good material in FLW: the two
singles "It's Raining Again" and "My Kind Of Lady"
are two excellent songs, both included in VB1 e VB2. But I like
very much "Don't leave me now" and "Waiting So
Long", two good songs. And about "It's Raining Again",
here there are the words that the chorus sings in the final part
of the song:
<<
It's raining
It's poring
The old man is snoring
He went to bed
And he bumped his head
And he didn't get up till morning.>>
What
can I add about FLW? I like it, because has some individual good
songs but also has a big fault: has written the end of Davies/Hodgson
duet.
